At 2:19 am on September 28, 1941, two ex-cons cut the power to the Lexington, Ky., Country Club.
The men have heard rumors of thousands of dollars at the club after the weekly Saturday night dance.
And the only person between them and the money is an older woman who lives alone in the club’s upstairs apartment.
Barely an hour later, the men break into the apartment and discover the older woman is not alone.
They commit a crime that will make the front page of the New York Times and headlines around the world. When it’s all over, five people will die and one man will lose everything.
